Is Hammock really free?
Snap, Jump and Color are free forever — no account, no nag. Everything else unlocks with a one-time $19.99 license for up to 3 Macs, which includes a year of updates. Every install begins with a 5-day full trial of all features, then quietly steps back to the free tier.
Do I need a Mac with a notch?
No. On a Mac without one — a Mac mini, an iMac, an older Air, or a notched laptop with the lid closed — Hammock draws a stand-in notch over the middle of the menu bar and every hint, chip and the Shelf work exactly the same. You can turn the stand-in off in Settings → Notch if you would rather keep the menu bar untouched.
What permissions does it need, and why?
Only what a feature needs, only when you turn it on. Accessibility powers snapping, switching, clipboard and snippets — with the separate Send Keystrokes privilege for pasting; Screen Recording powers on-device OCR; the Shelf’s Finder stash uses Automation. Awake, Breaks, the notch HUD and the color picker need nothing at all, and Focus dims without any permission — with Accessibility on it also tracks which window you’re in, and notices windows opening and closing.
Does it phone home?
No telemetry, no analytics, no account, no cloud. The only network traffic is the update check and a license or trial check against our own endpoint, which sends a one-way hash of your Mac’s hardware ID and nothing else. OCR and the color picker run entirely on-device with Apple’s Vision framework — no image or captured text ever leaves your Mac.
Why not the Mac App Store?
Direct download lets Hammock do things the sandbox forbids — global shortcuts, window control, a real file shelf. It’s signed and notarized by Apple and updates itself automatically, so you get the same Gatekeeper checks without the sandbox limits.
How do I activate my license?
Open Settings → General → License and paste the key from your receipt. One license covers 3 Macs. Lost it? Email us and we’ll resend.
How do I uninstall it?
Quit Hammock from the menu bar and drag it to the Trash. It leaves nothing behind but a small preferences file and its Application Support folder — plus a log folder, if you ever switched detailed logging on. No background helpers to hunt down.
